Congolese Evenings are occasional gatherings that aim to (1) inform; (2) train; (3) create networking spaces among members and with the authorities and leading figures of the City of Hamilton; (4) strengthen the idea of buying Congolese in order to support the development and growth of Congolese businesses; (5) promote Congolese culture; and (6) create a space to promote members\u2019 initiatives.<\/p>\n
A defining feature of a community like ours is empowerment \u2014 that is, embarking on a gradual process that involves continuous learning and a constant strengthening of the ability to articulate and respond to its priorities. It also means having real influence on, and a strong contribution to, decision-making at the local government level.<\/p>\n
Congolese Evenings put autonomy into practice: the freedom to make our own decisions. Congolese Evening activities are tailored to the needs of our community, rather than being dictated by organizations that impose excessive rules that usually serve only to justify their budget spending. For this new initiative, the board uses a registry of local, national and international organizations. Congolese Evenings take holistic approaches based on the principles of empowerment, inclusion, social justice, self-determination and collective action.<\/p>\n
Each Congolese Evening has three dimensions: (1) A host: a CCH member who wishes to promote or showcase their business. (2) The theme of the Congolese Evening is gathered from CCH members, based on a shared need. Any CCH member is free to suggest a theme of their choice, which is reviewed by the board before it goes ahead. In general, the themes of Congolese Evenings are set in advance and published in our communication forums. (3) Ensuring active participation of CCH members: a team of organizers for each Congolese Evening makes sure that CCH members are informed and motivated to take part. The idea is for these activities to continue for good, in a coordinated, structured and self-sustaining way. Most of these activities take place in the afternoon or evening \u2014 hence the name \u201cCongolese Evenings\u201d: a space, a time, an intelligence, an energy and a sacrifice dedicated to the development of our community.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
