This year, the theme for Independence Day was “Learn today, lead tomorrow: youth and their knowledge of their country of origin.” The CCH has made youth a priority. One area for immediate improvement is giving young people knowledge of the history and culture of their home country so that they can participate and contribute with confidence to cultural diversity in the city of Hamilton and in Canadian society as a whole.
The Independence Day celebration dedicated to our youth was well planned and carried out. Young Congolese people were engaged during the outreach campaign on prospects for future cooperation.
The gala evening held on the eve of Congolese independence brought together 180 participants: adults and young people of different cultures, nationalities and backgrounds.
The Independence evening was a unique experience that brought guests together to celebrate the DRC’s independence. It created a platform to showcase Congolese culture, food and richness to the many non-Congolese guests who came to the celebration. Together with CCH members, the board looks forward to organizing next year’s Independence Gala.
